Healthpoint Specializes in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine.

Why You Should Use HealthPoint:

At HealthPoint, our approach to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is distinct in several important ways:
  1. The Practitioner is an Experienced Doctor of Chinese Medicine. John Walters, DAOM, L.Ac., holds Doctoral and Master's degrees in acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, as well as a Master's degree in health services administration. He has been continually nationally board certified (NCCAOM) and licensed to practice acupuncture in Minnesota by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice since 2005. He has completed over 10,000 acupuncture treatments.

  2. We emphasize results. Our primary purpose is to improve your functional health status (your ability to participate in the activities you love, to enjoy quality time with your family, to perform your work) and to help you feel better and achieve an optimal quality of life. We do our best to accomplish this as quickly and inexpensively as possible.

  3. Unlike other health care practitioners who "do acupuncture," we are specialists in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). This is the holistic medical system that began in ancient China and which remains dynamic and relevant to this day. Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, medical tui na, and Chinese dietary therapy are used separately or combined holistically as part of a detailed treatment plan developed specifically for you based on your presenting signs and symptoms. It is impossible to correctly learn this skill-set through a weekend seminar or part-time practice. John Walters, DAOM, L.Ac., has completed over approximately 4,300 hours of formal, degree-relevant academic and clinical training in TCM, and completes many additional hours of continuing education courses on an annual basis.

  4. We are authentic. Our approach to TCM is grounded as much as possible on the historical and current Chinese written record of academic research and clinical practice within TCM.  Our emphasis is on theories and clinical practices that are a verifiable part of Chinese medicine as thought about, discussed and practiced in China. These can be referenced in the Chinese medical literature that has undergone scholarly analysis and scrutiny.  We practice according to what can be found in the written historical Chinese medical record, traceable to China, the birthplace of Chinese medicine and the region of the deepest and broadest study and application of this system of medicine for over 2 millennia. It reflects the 2,500 year evolution of the thought and clinical experience of the founders of this medicine. In this regard, we attempt to always practice what is historically verifiable, accurate and authentic.

  5. We emphasize evidence. Because Chinese medicine evolved and developed thousands of years ago in a manner quite different from Western medicine, it remains a challenge to validate certain of its treatment approaches according to the scientific research models commonly applied to Western medicine. Nonetheless, traditional approaches to health care, including TCM, should be held to similar (if not the same) standards of evidence as Western science. As a result, we do not make unreasonable claims about the effectiveness of TCM. Acupuncture, Chinese herbal formulas, cupping, and tui na, can be helpful for many health conditions - especially in combination with conventional Western medicine - but their degree of effectiveness can depend on the specific condition and its associated severity.

  6. We cooperate to integrate your care. TCM is the original integrative medicine, a well conceived, empirically- and time-tested holistic medical system of diagnostics, therapeutics, and patient self-care. TCM considers each patient's physical, mental and emotional, or spiritual aspects. At HealthPoint, we're practicing an ancient discipline in a modern, technically sophisticated society.  We understand the importance of keeping current and also working hand-in-hand with your physician, nurse practitioner, chiropractor, behavioral therapist, and other members of your health care team. At your request and with your authorization, we make ourselves available to communicate with your health care advocates and professionals by phone or written correspondence.

  7. We practice with integrity. We avoid knowingly making bogus health claims about traditional Chinese medicine. We progress from pattern diagnosis to treatment plan on the basis of clearly delineated treatment principles that are the standard of care for this medicine in China. We thereby seek to develop a specific treatment plan for you based on a long, documented, track record of success. Because we work to diagnose and treat pain, illness, and disease according to the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, you can expect that we will provide care that evidence suggests is efficacious, has a very low likelihood of causing harm, and a good likelihood of helping you.

In addition, we work with you as a partner, mutually sharing information about your case in a friendly, but respectful, atmosphere. We  values your time, your insight into your own case, and your business.
